Cosmetic DermatologyIn our practice, a board certified dermatologist and physician assistants perform all cosmetic procedures except for the aesthetic services, which are performed by our licensed aesthetician.
Botox and Dysport injections are two of the top cosmetic procedures performed and are both FDA approved.
Botox and Dysport are purified proteins injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead, mouth and neck to smooth out crow’s feet, relaxes frown and worry lines, and neck lines. Botox and Dysport injections block nerve impulses to localized muscles to relax the muscles to give you a more relaxed and rejuvenated appearance. Botox and Dysport injections can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (unusual, excessive, or abnormal sweating).
The procedure is safe with temporary side effects localized to the area of injections. Results can last 3-6 months. Results are dependent upon the number of Botox or Dysport units received, injection technique, and the individual patient.

Fillers can consist of fat, human collagen, bovine collagen, hyaluronic acid (found naturally in your body and which decreases with age), or synthetic substances. Fillers are classified according to the levels of injections into the skin, duration of action, and acts as a filler (act as a substitute for collagen) or collagen stimulator (stimulates the natural production of collagen). Collagen stimulators (Sculptra and Radiesse) tend to last longer.
Fillers are use to treat:
An experienced injector will choose the best filler for you to optimize your correction. Optimal results depend on the correct placement of the filler.
Fillers are very versatile and can be placed in many areas. Botox and Dysport may also be used to enhance the effects of fillers.
Restylane/Perlane is composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in your body. Lasting longer than collagen, Restylane is injected more superficially into the dermis with a very fine needle. The results are instantaneous with a natural enhancement. Smoothing out folds and wrinkles can make the face look years younger. Perlane is larger and thicker therefore injected deeper than Restylane for deeper grooves. These products can be used together to complement each other. They are safe and last between 6-9 months. Rare side effects including allergic reactions are reported. There may be some bruising and swelling immediately post injection. We now offer a new formulation with numbing properties. Same results with less discomfort.

JUVÉDERM® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Your healthcare professional eases JUVÉDERM® injectable gel under the skin to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds – the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

Radiesse®Radiesse consists of calcium hydroxylapatite (normal constituent of bone) spheres suspended in gel. It does not elicit an allergic response. It can be considered more of a filler implant and therefore longer lasting. It may last up to two years. The duration is dependent on age, lifestyle, muscle activity. Radiesse can be used in laugh lines (nasolabial folds), chin and cheek augmentation, temple wasting, depressed scars, and non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Sculptra is composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic biocompatible polymer that is safe and non-allergic. It has been used as a surgical suture material for years. It is considered a collagen stimulator to promote production of your body’s natural collagen in the treated area. Sculptra is used more for larger volume corrections such as loss of cheek volume, temple wasting, and lipoatrophy (facial fat loss). The augmentation of the cheek areas can also lift the nasolabial grooves (laugh lines).
Since Sculptra is a collagen stimulator, it takes time for your body to manufacture new collagen. Full correction and optimal results may not be visualized for several months. Sculptra has been shown to last for two years or longer and may be ideal for someone desiring a more progressive, natural, longer-lasting result.

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution into the vein with a fine needle to cause inflammation of the blood vessel wall which causes the vein to collapse. The blood and vein is then absorbed by the body’s own natural response. Sclerotherapy treats spider veins (small dilated superficial veins) and telangiectasias on the legs. Larger varicose bulging veins are best treated surgically, especially if there is accompanying pain or discomfort.
Patients may experience a temporary stinging or cramping during the injection as the solution enters the vein. No sedation or anesthesia is required. There maybe post-inflammatory discoloration that fades over time. The treated vessels gradually disappears over the following weeks.
Results are variable depending on the patient, the severity of the condition and the extent of improvement that is desired. Several treatment sessions are usually recommended.
