What is a physician assistant (PA)?
Certified physician assistants (PA-C) are medical providers formally trained in primary care, graduating from one of over 100 accredited academic training programs. Their education does not stop there. To remain nationally certified, physician assistants must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education every 2 years and pass a national recertification examination every 6 years.
Physician assistants have been practicing with dermatologists for 20 years, providing a wide variety of services, including diagnosis, prescription, ordering and interpreting lab tests, wound care, cosmetic services, and medical or surgical treatment of a wide variety of clinical dermatology. As with all physician assistants, dermatology physician assistants are legally and ethically bound to practice ONLY under supervision by their supervising physician.
Starting with their primary care training and experience, Ms. McBride and Ms. Wagner have studied dermatology in a variety of ways, including on the job with dermatologists, through dermatology lectures and seminars, attendance at American Academy of Dermatology education conferences, dermatology grand rounds and computer and home-study courses.
Ms. McBride and Ms. Wagner have experience in various aspects of general and cosmetic dermatology, including lasers, skin cancer, biopsies and excisions, Botox, acne treatments, cosmetic fillers, chemical peels, rashes, and microdermabrasion.
Ms. McBride and Ms. Wagner are members of the following professional organizations:
Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants
American Academy of Physician Assistants
