Mary T. Pentel, M.D., FAAD
Dr. Mary Pentel is board certified in dermatology and dermatological surgery. She has been practicing in Jacksonville since 1998. She graduated from the Pennsylvania State University as a University Scholar with a major in Biology. She earned her medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University, graduating in the top of her class with membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Pentel completed her dermatology residency at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where she served as chief resident. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the Jacksonville Dermatological Society, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and a member of the American Society of MOHS Surgery (ASMS)..
Dr. Pentel is active in her community as President of the Jacksonville Asian American Alliance, board member of the Jacksonville Country Day School, board member of the Mayor’s Asian Advisory Board. Dr. Pentel also has a mentoring program for any girls interested in the field of medicine, especially dermatology.
Physician Extenders in Dermatology
Certified physician assistants (PA-C) and nurse practitioners (ARNP) are medical providers formally trained in primary care, graduating from one of over 100 accredited academic training programs.
Their education does not stop there. To remain nationally certified, physician extenders must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and pass a national recertification examination every six years.
Physician extenders have been practicing with dermatologists for over 25 years, providing a wide variety of services, including diagnosis, prescription, ordering and interpreting lab tests, wound care, cosmetic services, and medical or surgical treatment of a wide variety of clinical dermatology. As with all physician extenders, dermatology physician extenders are legally and ethically bound to practice only under supervision by their supervising physician.
