What are spider and varicose veins?
When blood vessels show through the skin, they could be spider or varicose veins. If they are small; red, purple, or blue; and twist and turn on the legs, they are likely to be spider veins. Varicose veins are larger, raised, swollen vessels that also twist and turn. Either may cause embarrassment.
- Genetics – You may simply inherit them.
- Medications – Using birth control can contribute to vein problems.
- Hormones – Puberty, menopause, and pregnancy can have an influence.
- Jobs – Nurses, hair stylists, and factory workers, and those in other occupations that require long periods of standing with added pressure on legs and blood vessels, are at greater risk.
- Health conditions – Increased abdominal pressure could lead to constipation, tumors, or enlarged, swollen veins.
You may experience burning, tingling, and heaviness in your legs. This can make it difficult to stand and walk. You could be more tired and restless than usual. Not only can the veins affect your self-esteem, but physical activities may also decrease. There is no need to suffer any longer. We provide a solution.
We offer sclerotherapy. During this procedure, our dermatologist injects a solution of saline into the vein. The solution irritates the vessel lining, causing it to swell and clot. Eventually, scar tissue fades away. Veins gradually disappear within three to six weeks.
After the procedure, you may experience post-inflammatory discoloration. This fades over time. We provide advice to follow for 48 hours after treatment. For example, do wash the injection site with mild soap and lukewarm water and shower with cooler water. Do not take hot baths, soak in hot tubs, expose yourself to the sun, or bask in tanning beds.
