Introducing Bellafill for Acne

Bellafill for Acne

Bellafill FAQs

What is Bellafill®?

Bellafill ® is an FDA approved long lasting filler (up to 5 years), to treat smile lines and acne scars.  Bellafill can also be used for volume restoration in other areas of the face, chest and hands.  Bellafill is a collagen-based dermal filler with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. The collagen in Bellafill® provides immediate results for volume and lift.  Over time, the collagen is reabsorbed while the PMMA microspheres are left behind. They create a supportive base that allows more of your own collagen to develop, resulting in smoother-looking skin in the long term.

Who are good candidates for Bellafill?

The best candidates for Bellafill are experienced patients who have had good results with facial fillers in the past, and are looking for longer lasting results.   Bellafill is a great alternative for those patients with “filler fatigue”.  These are patients who love the results that they achieved with dermal fillers but are tired of visits every 9-18 months for injections that can be painful and may cause bruising.  In addition, patients who are considered fast metabolizer may also be good candidates for Bellafill.

Bellafill is also the only FDA approved filler for the correction of certain types of moderate to severe acne scars in patients over 21.  Patient with acne scars will see immediate and long lasting results

How long does it last?

The effectiveness and patient satisfaction rates of Bellafill® have been established through 5 years.  Patient satisfaction is typically quite high.

When will I see results?

Bellafill ® replaces lost volume in the skin for correction that is both immediate and lasting. You will see immediate volume correction and lifting of your acne scars secondary to the collagen.  Over time, the collagen is reabsorbed while the PMMA microspheres are left behind. They create a supportive base that stimulates your own collagen. A subsequent touch up injection session at 4-8 weeks may be needed for full correction.

Is it safe?

Bellafill ® has been proven safe through 5 years in the largest and longest prospective dermal filler study ever completed. The polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microsphere is a biocompatible material that has been safely used in medical implants and other devices for more than 65 years.

Skin testing for bovine collagen allergy is recommended before treatment with Bellafill. However, a negative skin test is not entirely predictive, and a bovine collagen hypersensitivity reaction may still occur. Bovine collagen allergy is quite unusual, and if it occurs, it is easily managed. It is also completely reversible.  In our practice you may decline a skin test with written consent.

Occurrence of granulomas may occur with Bellafill as it may occur with any other filler.  Formation of a granuloma is a rare immunologic response.  In a large study with over 1,000 patents the rate of granulomas formation in Bellafill is less than 1.7%.

At Southside Dermatology & Laser Cosmetic Center, our experienced dermatologic and cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Pentel, injects all dermal fillers. Dr. Pentel has been performing injectable neuromodulators and fillers for over 20 years.

What’s the downtime?

You can return to your normal activities right away. However, you may experience some temporary swelling, redness, pain, bruising, lumps or bumps, itching, and discoloration at the treatment site. Keep in mind that these symptoms are usually temporary, resolving within 1 to 7 days.  In our practice we offer complimentary laser for bruising with Bellafill.

How much does Bellafill® cost?

The cost of Bellafill® varies depending on how many syringes Dr. Pentel recommends. We also offer significantly discounted pricing for a box of 5 syringes. You will benefit from your long-term savings with Bellafill compared to other shorter acting dermal fillers that will require more injection sessions. During your consultation, Dr. Pentel can personalize a treatment plan that fits your budget and time.
