CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Laser Resurfacing
Dr. Mary Pentel of The Spa & Laser Center at Southside Dermatology encourages patients to learn about the many skin solutions available through her state-of-the-art practice. Patients in the Jacksonville, FL area who are concerned about the look of their skin often turn to her to find out how they can combat poor texture and tone as well as the signs of aging. For many patients, treatments such as CO2 laser resurfacing can provide dramatic, effective, and affordable results.

Traditional CO2 lasers have always been considered the “gold standard” in laser resurfacing techniques. These typically provide a dramatic improvement in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, skin laxity, and pigmentation concerns in just one session. Unfortunately, these treatments can result in delayed hypopigmentation, scarring, and redness. Instead, our practice uses a more advanced method with the CO2RE CO2 laser, which is a fractional laser with less downtime and increased safety in comparison to more conventional resurfacing methods.

The CO2RE fractional CO2 laser works by creating tiny areas of vaporized skin surrounded by healthy tissues that are supported with re-epithelialization for shorter healing and faster recovery time. Most patients will deal with healing over the course of just a few days. The multi-depth technology used in CO2RE’s device can help even the deepest of dermal layers in rejuvenation.

Several different strengths of treatment can be applied to the skin using the CO2RE fractional laser. Dr. Mary Pentel will design a treatment plan based on her patients’ specific needs. Patients with hyperpigmentation issues such as sun-induced freckles and superficial fine lines and wrinkles can use a milder level of treatment versus someone dealing with complex acne scarring, deeper signs of aging, and more obvious sun spots. The settings of the CO2RE device can be set to the appropriate level of aggressiveness based on a skin evaluation done by Dr. Mary Pentel before the laser therapy is used.

Most patients who undergo CO2RE treatment will need to consider the downtime necessary to heal, which may be up to one week. However, just one or two treatments can provide effective results, making this a great way to dramatically change the appearance of the skin and address several concerns at once. Resurfacing with this amazing technology is a great way for patients to achieve a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs.
