PicoWay®

What is the PicoWay® laser and what does it treat?

PicoWay laser procedure The PicoWay® is an advanced laser for the treatment of tattoos, pigmented lesions, birthmarks, melasma, age spots, freckles, acne scarring and skin rejuvenation. This laser has 3 wavelengths (532 nm, 755 nm, 1064nm) to treat resistant, multi-colored tattoos in fewer treatments with faster clearance, less downtime and less discomfort. The longer wavelength can penetrate deeper into the dermis to remove the deeper tattoo pigment. The PicoWay® has a high success rate in removing the more difficult red and yellow tattoos. Unlike traditional laser that uses thermal energy the PicoWay® uses non thermal ultra short picosecond pulses to shatter the pigment into tiny particles that can easily be eliminated by the body’s natural processes. This non-thermal energy is safe for all skin type including ethnic skin.

The PicoWay® also has another hand piece, the PicoWay® Resolve (Picosecond Holographic Fractional). This technology uses the same ultra short picosecondsbursts of energy but utilizes holographic fractional technology, which means that only a fraction of the skin is affected. The laser targets the melanin (pigment) and leaves the surrounding healthy skin untouched. This new generation laser requires fewer treatments than other pigment lasers, causes less discomfort and provides better clearance of the pigmentation. Since the least amount of heat possible is transferred to the skin, this technology is safe for darker skin types. Less heat generated from the PicoWay® laser provides a safe and effective treatment for melasma.

How many treatments are needed?

The effectiveness of the treatment depends on many factors such as the location, depth, size and type of pigmentation. Some pigmentation issues may resolve with just one treatment while other conditions may require a series of treatments to achieve optimum results.

Are there any side effects or downtime?

The downtime will be determined by the condition that is being treated and the PicoWay® laser wavelength. Compare to traditional lasers for pigmentation and acne scarring there is relatively minimal downtime with the PicoWay® Resolve. You may be red and slightly swollen for a few hours. There maybe slight darkening of your pigmentation that will gently flake off. You can wear make-up within 24 hours.

The expected downtime with the PicoWay® laser tattoo removal consists of mild swelling, tenderness and slight crusting. Compare to traditional laser tattoo removal lasers, the PicoWay®tattoo removal laser requires significantly fewer treatments, has less discomfort and better clearance.

How much does it cost?

This will depend on the condition that is being treated and how many treatments are required. Package pricing is available for melasma, acne scarring, and laser tattoo removal.
